Webinar: Reducing Nutrient Loss From Farmland
High fertilizer prices and environmental degradation associated with fertilizer applications are two hot topics in many people’s mind. This presentation will help consultants, growers, and other practitioners in the North-Central, and possibly other regions manage nitrogen and phosphorus inputs effectively to maximize productivity and environmental protection. Specifically, the presentation will focus on the benefits of no applying nitrogen to soybeans and carefully determining how to best apply this nutrient to corn (since it is typically grown in the rotation with soybean). Later, the discussion will focus on phosphorus management to maximize production and minimize environmental degradation. Finally, a brief discussion on management practices that are being evaluated to minimize negative impacts of fertilization on the environment will be presented. By the end of this presentation, the practitioner should better understand how to effectively manage nitrogen and phosphorus for soybean production and environmental stewardship.
