October 02, 2014 The soybean crop is nearly finished, or soon will be, and full-season bean harvest will be done in a few weeks, followed by double-crop soybeans. Don’t end the season by just counting the bushels you sold or put in storage and calculating your revenue. September 29, 2014 Combining soybeans is about harvesting soybeans at optimal moisture to capture the most bushels while reducing harvesting losses. It is also about making sure the combine is properly set and operated to reduce any mechanical losses. Soybean yields can be increased by 5 to 10 percent by leaving fewer beans in the field after harvest. Combine harvesting loss of only 3 to 4 percent (1.5 to 2.5 bu/acres in 60-bushel beans) can be achieved... |

September 26, 2014 The soybean yield ceiling to break has always been 100 bushels. It was long thought that soybeans’ maximum yield potential was 100 bushels per acre and corn’s was 500 bushels per acre. We know the 100-bushel ceiling has been officially broken by farmers a number of times in other states and that a few companies also have broken the record unofficially. In fact, Stoller USA reported a 214.7-bushel yield from research plots in Texas this summer... |

September 23, 2014 Variable soil types, knolls, flooding and drought have left many growers with extreme in-field variability of soybean maturity. There are areas in fields where the soybean seed is 13% or less moisture adjacent to areas with green seed. The prevailing question is “When should the grower harvest?” Obviously there is no simple answer, as each field is different. However here are a set of guidelines to consider:
