May 21, 2015 I live and farm out in West Central Illinois and the spring got off to a good start for both corn and soybeans. Soybean planting in our area first started in late April with a few early birds going to the field even before that to plant soybeans. I know of a field in Fulton County near my farm that was planted in mid April and was in the ground through all the cold weather we had. It took 3 weeks for that field to emerge, but today... |

May 20, 2015 I can’t plant soybeans in the rain, so I am thinking about planting my double-crop beans. May 14, 2015 So when should you replant soybeans? This is not a common practice if you plant when soil conditions are right and don’t experience a late frost, drown out or crusting after a big rain followed by a hot dry wind blowing over tilled soils. May 14, 2015 When it comes to farming in Illinois we usually don’t think about it being dry in the spring. It is usually the opposite: too wet to get in the field and concerns about creating compaction, sidewall compaction in the furrow or crusting. But at times the soil can get too dry in the spring; either from lack of rain or from tillage and windy conditions. May 14, 2015 Will applying Cobra® Herbicide really protect soybeans against white mold? That is the question that I and my fellow high-yield soybean enthusiasts set out to answer in 2009. Little did we know at the time that this would become the perfect year for this experiment. The field in question was moderate in fertility and did have a history of white mold.

May 13, 2015 As I am writing this update it is 55 degrees and cloudy with 33 mph gusts. It sure does not feel like spring and not the spring soybeans like! Planting progress has been delayed by several rounds of light to moderate rainfall recently. Much of the area received multiple showers, usually averaging a third to 1” per rain event, with reported totals for the last week ranging from 1.5” to 2.5”.
